Municipal Water Supply Upgrade

Site Challenge

One of our water authority clients had the duty to increase the water supply and pressure based on today’s demands. The original installation dates back to the 1990s; since then, there has been a surge in the expansion of the local infrastructure with new housing, schools, and shops. To ensure we had all the information required to size the modern-day pumps Polypump visited the local area, studied reports for future growth in the area, and took into account the strict guidelines from the water board.

Site restraints included no increase in max power and no pipework or plinth modifications permissible since it is a live site responsible for providing clean, cold water to a large local network.

Site Solution

Reviewing the available power on site and the flow rates and pressures required to meet the network demand, Polypump was in a position to offer a solution. Polypump was also awarded the installation and commissioning responsibility, for which we engaged Caprari. With the duty point in mind, we were able to size a pump capable of the 270m3/hr and the required site discharge pressure. Due to operational needs, the project was spaced over 2 weeks, allowing sufficient time to safely remove, install, and commission each pump set.
